✂️ Tailoring School Program
Women’s Skills Training & Tailoring School
In partnership with TAFCOM, Friends-Together runs a tailoring school that equips students with practical sewing and tailoring skills. Students also receive training in business basics, money management, and planning—skills that help them earn income, start businesses, and gain independence.
Program Background

The tailoring program began before our partnership with TAFCOM, starting in a tiny room with just four sewing machines. We recognized this was a way to help women—especially younger students born HIV positive—gain practical skills and self-reliance.
Many students arrive unable to read, write, or speak English. Instruction focuses on practical sewing and tailoring skills. Business training, including money management and resource planning, prepares students to succeed during and after school.
Hands-On Training & Products
Students apply their skills by making a variety of handmade items, including:
-
Hobo bags
-
Blankets
-
iPad cases
-
Purses
-
Shopping bags
-
Dresses
-
Toiletry bags
-
Reusable sanitary liners and shields (for the Flow Project)
Only Flow Project kits are distributed. Other products are available for sale, with pre-orders taken during our annual trips and items brought home for sale.

Funding & Support
For just $50 per student, you can help fund this program—providing tools, training, and practical experience that allow students to build a better future while supporting women and girls in need.
Students receive free tuition but may need to purchase some supplies themselves.
Impact Stories
Today, Nie not only produces products that improve the health and wellbeing of women and girls in her community, but she also has the skills to start her own business. The confidence, experience, and practical training she gained at the school opened doors she never imagined possible.
Many graduates go on to start businesses or find employment, supporting their families and strengthening the community. The tailoring school empowers women while meeting local needs.
